Middle school is a strange and wonderful journey, one feared by parents when navigated by their children.  Sue Acuña's middle school students tell her she's one adult who "gets" them, and she's eager to share with parents what she's learned.

Sue and Cynthia Tobias (The Way They Learn and You Can't Make Me, But I Can Be Persuaded) co-authored a book to help parents enjoy--rather than just endure--raising a middle schooler.  Middle School: The Inside Story is packed full of quotes from actual middle schoolers that give insights into their hearts and heads.  It's a helpful resource for anyone who is raising or working with middle schoolers.

When Sue taught 5th and 6th grades, she was sure she never wanted to teach older students. But God had other plans, and one day she found herself facing 8th graders. She was surprised to discover how much she enjoyed them.

In the more than 20 years she has spent with the 10-to-14-year-old crowd, her enthusiasm for teaching them has only increased. Sue currently teaches 7th and 8h grade at Concordia Lutheran School in Tacoma, where she also directs the school choir. She received both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Education from Concordia University, Portland.

Outside the classroom, Sue directs the church choir, mentors parents of middle schoolers, writes a blog for parents, takes on all challengers at online word games, and indulges her passion for travel as often as the budget allows (favorite destinations: Hawaii and Southern California). She is also a sought-after speaker at workshops for teachers and parents.

Sue and her husband Paul have been married for over 30 years and are now enjoying their three adult sons, all of whom survived the teen years and went on to college.
